Construction and Infrastructure Previous | Next
The region is investing billions into infrastructure development today. Strong infrastructure will keep a country competitive and accommodate its growing population. A few major ongoing projects worth mentioning: Sunda Strait Bridge linking Java and Sumatera in Indonesia; new International Airport near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Chiang Mai-Bangkok high-speed train in Thailand; and Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macau bridge in China. It can be seen that most of the regional investments have gone into improving transport infrastructure. The main objective is to improve productivity, efficiency and reducing congestion. However, infrastructure development may be damaging to the natural environment, hence the term ‘sustainable infrastructure’ emerged. A sustainable infrastructure integrates materials and methods that promote environmental quality, resource efficiency, economic vitality and public safety through its design, construction and operation.

The program will discuss role of geospatial technology as one of the key enabling technologies being used in overall planning, deployment, delivery, maintenance, and management of an infrastructure. Location information is vital during site selection phase for a new development. While integrated with comprehensive spatial data infrastructure, environmental impacts can be accurately measured through planning on the use of energy to reduce air pollution, noise pollution, and others. Audience can expect quality presentations from major construction companies and infrastructure management authorities.
