Mitsubishi Electric has been developing and producing the mobile mapping system for more than ten years and has released its latest model MMS-G220 series for the overseas market a year ago. It is a highly accurate measuring system using car-mounted GPS antennas, laser scanners and cameras for acquiring 3D positioning data of road surfaces and roadside features to an absolute accuracy of 10 cm which is used to create comprehensive 3D maps to a high level of accuracy. The maximum point clouds that can be acquired would be 1,000,000 points/sec to a range of 119 m with a 360° field of view depending on the laser scanner installed to the system. The system is compatible with Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) developed by Mitsubishi Electric, which will commence full service first in Japan from 2018, then to the Asia-Oceania region.
