Geospatial PPP for Business & Society

Asia Pacific region, especially its Southeastern countries, is experiencing rapid development with multi-billion dollars mega projects ongoing and in pipelines. Transport infrastructure, telecommunications and energy generation projects, among others, are becoming national priorities. Apart from being an additional funding source and mitigating risk, governments are increasingly turning to the private sector to explore latest technology and innovation to improve operational efficiency.

Such PPP model is becoming imperative in geospatial industry as well. With conducive market-oriented policy frameworks, governments can give impetus to the geospatial ecosystem, especially businesses, to ensure geospatial information and technology are available to society at large.

For example, to prepare for natural disasters, governments need to partner with private sector to deploy high technology communications and access to satellite data for emergency response centers. These centers can integrate their services to offer additional benefits such as weather forecasts, sea surface condition and potential fishing zones, which benefit fishermen and society in general.

Vehicle telemetry, on the other hand, can be integrated with emergency services to improve ambulances and fire engines response time. This requires seamless partnership between government and car manufacturers. Having recognized the importance of GNSS accuracy to reduce errors and increase reliability of emergency services, governments have been investing to improve national positioning infrastructure with the help of private sector's funding and technology. Accurate GNSS positioning benefits various location-based application as well, including agriculture, transportation, meteorology, and plethora of businesses servicing the society.
